I.F.M.H.S

INTERNATIONAL FALABELLA MINIATURE HORSE SOCIETY

The IFMHS evolved in 1985, motivated by the desire to preserve the authenticity, and quality of this rare breed of horse. Established by the first registrar, Sebastian F. Fitzmaurice, in conjunction with Lord & Lady Fisher (formerly of Kilverstone Wildlife Park/Latin American Zoo), the IFMHS maintains a Registry of pedigree Falabella miniature horses, directly descended from those first imported in the 1970's. With regret Sebastian F.Fitzmaurice died in 1994, and was succeeded by his widow, Carolyn F. Fitzmaurice who continued his valued contribution to the Falabella Miniature Horse world.

The IFMHS acts as an information service for the general public, also aiding in MAF consultative processes.

Since 1998 the IFMHS has been involved in a number of fundraising events, such as CAMVET, Royal Horticultural shows, and local countryside activities. In co-operation with BBC, and Head Over Heels Production, the IFMHS has ensured the continued education of the public regarding this rare and special horse.

This non-profit Registry endeavours to maintain strict acceptance criteria, to ensure that the breed remains bona fide, and true to the ideal of a thoroughbred in miniature, as perceived through the eyes of Senor Falabella, when Lady Fisher visited Argentina in 1977.

A list of recognised breeders may be obtained upon request to the IFMHS.

WARNING: The IFMHS advises that all parties interested in purchasing a Falabella Miniature Horse should verify breed authenticity. It is generally recommended to purchase from reputable studs, where the majority of Falabella's reside.
